The Center for Applied Competitive Technologies
The RCCD Norco CACT recently teamed with the Manufacturing/Engineering Department to win two important grants. The first grant was an award from the National Science Foundation in April of 2008 to fund the development of a program to train "Automated Systems Technicians for the Logistics Industry".
The second grant is also an award from the National Science Foundation. It is called a planning grant.It will fund the efforts of an RCCD-led team to develop a plan to compete for a grant potentially worth $5,000,000 over five years.
During this year's funding cycle, the National Science Foundation issued two planning grants: one to RCCD and the other to Mid-South Community College in Memphis, Tennessee.
Every summer, junior high and high school students converge on the RCC Norco campus for the Summer Innovation Institute at the Center for Applied Competitive Technologies. Generously funded by the National Science Foundation, the Summer Innovation Institute
Thanks again to generous funding from the National Science Foundation, four summer camp students were selected to represent RCC at the 2008 National Science Foundation Principal Investigators Conference in Washington D.C. last October.
Many local businesses have expressed a dire need to keep their valued employees occupational skills on a par with newly developed technological advances that they have installed to remain competitive in a broadening and tenacious global marketplace.
One such local firm, Goodrich Aerostructures of Riverside, CA, has been actively participating in a training regimen with our RCCD Norco CACT for a good part of the current century.
